I have a problem with that word when it is applied to racial matters. Are you seriously going to tell me that you don't
see the fact that everyone has a different skin tone and that people of the same skin tone sometimes happen to belong to the same racial category? That's a lie and you know it. There's nothing wrong with
seeing it. How are you going to deny that you simply
see it? I have light brown skin, one of you might have light skin, and yet another one you might have dark skin. Is it bad for me to point it out? Saying "Oh, I don't see race, I don't see the color of people's skin" (however noble you think it sounds) implies that you're trying so so hard to appear non-racist that it makes me wonder if you're hiding something; why else would you go out of your way to say something like that? It's not that you don't see it, it's that you decide to completely ignore what is right there in front of your eyes. Why has it become so taboo to acknowledge the fact that people just look different? Why has colorblindness become synonymous with non-racism? Don't be afraid to see the full spectrum of color that people come in, don't ignore the melanin. Seeing it doesn't make you racist, but assigning stereotypes and generalizations to it does.

Agreed.
Plus the fact that everyone around me "doesn't notice" it makes me feel if I do notice I'm doing something wrong and I'm a no good racist.
I tried that, not to see skin tone, but then I just gave up. I feel if you do, you hide the true beauties of the other person. For example, dark skin is beautiful. So if I don't pretend to see it, I'll just pretend that they're not beautiful. Monotone is boring.
Ooooh.....*applause* Snap, girlfriend, snap on folks!
Truth! Extremely well-said, and rec'd. :)

Wahoo...
Yes.! There are "none" so blind... as They: - ?
whom can LOOK .. But? ... "see_no_colour".
Everything in this world, as well as everything beyond it- into deep space... Is GEARED around the bountiless fragrances, & other nuances,
such as flavours & exquisite odours, of illustrious "COLOURS".
Without "lively, rich & vibrant colours", We'd only "see" the ... Same_Old_Same_Old
& this dull & disgusting, morbid dreary "life", wolud become near impossible to endure.
Unlike Ur BLUE MAN... (of an earlier blog).. We are ALL "wearing" different (natural) coloured OUTER SKINS yes? & yet... God did make us ALL
.. to be the same dark pink inside, & we ALL have the same types, of RED blood - seaping through our beings.
We all cut, hurt & BLEED - exactly the same... and no matter what one "does" - NONE of us... can tell the "skin" difference,
When the lights "GO_OUT" - 2kms Underground... ???
Down there- at the "coalpit's_face"...
So - Am I racist...
Hell yeah.
But it has NOTHIG to do with colour, & everything to "DO" with dfferent "peples attitudes" to CLAIM prior (so_called_customery) land_rights,
& under blood links... (lay) Claim to ancient ancesterial lines,
Often bleached down through a "miriad" of ethnic options, over the intervening years, to cushion those suppoed "claimants".. from the strictest "HARSH" realities...
That their ancestors, propbaly killed & plundered, along with the forcefull "stealing" of said customery rights.. (in the 1st instance) ... ?
From others with a higher CLAIM than those whom stole.
Hell Yeah - I'm racist. & I dispise ALL (racist_colours) ... Irrespective of WHOSE skin colour they happen to be "wearing" when they PROTEST. Often amongst their own, with the same scant regards, to the way their descendants, are treating "those" whom work DAMHARD (today), attempting to keep the socio economic "levels" a LOT higher.. than when Ur ancestors, STOLE the land...
? ? ? In the 1st place.
